Water
Water is the second most essential substance that your body needs (oxygen is the first). Water does so many incredible things in the body. It helps to clean cells by removing toxins, keeps blood flowing more easily, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, and helps control body temperature.
The human body is approximately 75% water. Brain tissue requires 85% of the body’s water. No wonder so many suffer from headaches, maybe they are dehydrated. Nothing replaces water in the body, not coffee, soda, tea, milk, or juice. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 of your body’s weight in ounces of water (ex: 100 lbs=50 oz/day).
Your body loses water from perspiration, urination, bowel movements and even through breathing. It is true that you do acquire some water from fresh fruits and vegetables, but that is an average of only 2 cups per day. By not drinking enough water you can become constipated, retain toxins, force the kidneys to work harder, feel fatigued and may worsen allergy and asthma symptoms.
Municipal tap water has chemicals added to it to keep it bacteria-free. It is a good idea to drink water that has has the chemicals filtered out. There are many varieties of water that you can purchase, distilled, reverse osmosis, purified, spring, oxygenated and pH enhanced to name a few. At the least, try a carbon filter that attaches to your kitchen sink.
Carbon filters are very economical and will filter out gaseous chemicals while leaving the minerals intact. Most carbon filters are super easy to attach and you can even get them for your shower. You can buy them at most grocery stores. Don’t forget to replace the filter as recommended.
