An organisms’ (humans, animals or plants) ability to carry out chemical reactions is not possible without enzymes. Enzymes are a very large and complex protein molecule. They are the catalysts or the workers of the body.
There are an estimated 75,000 different enzymes in the human body that perform chemical reactions at an amazing rate. Enzymes are very specific to which substrate or molecule they work on. It is like a lock and key relationship between enzymes and substrates.
Enzymes are like the locks and substrates are like the keys. Only certain substrates can fit into certain enzymes for the desired reaction to occur. That may explain why there are so many different enzymes. Enzymes can either launch a reaction or speed it up. They are also never wasted and always recycled.
Enzymes maintain our health and heal our bodies. Minerals, vitamins, and hormones can only work because of the power of enzymes. The human species is enzyme-dependent. The absence of enzymes is responsible for many diseases and without essential enzymes, our lives would cease.
There are three general categories or types of enzymes for health:
** Metabolic Enzymes – Our entire bodies are operated by metabolic enzymes. The metabolic enzymes run the kidneys, lungs, heart, liver, nervous system, digestive system, and even our thinking. Every part in our physical being, our cells, tissues, and organs are run by metabolic enzymes.
** Digestive Enzymes – digest our food. The majority of these digestive system enzymes for health are produced by the pancreas. They help to break down chewed food into smaller particles that become usable to the body.
** Raw Food Enzymes – Raw foods contain their own enzymes. That is why raw food will get spoiled when not eaten, due to their own enzymes digesting themselves (ex: bruise on an apple). Both plant foods and animal foods contain raw food enzymes.
Some plant foods with higher raw food enzyme content are: Avocados, dates, papaya, grapes, figs, raw honey, bananas, mangos, kiwi, pineapple, and papaya. It is essential it is to eat raw foods with their precious raw food enzymes.
